Period Of Record vs. "30 year climate" data

The averages on the right hand side of the table are formed using the entire "Period Of Record." The period of record means the averages contain all of the data ever taken at that station. However, the averages in the left column are formed using the most recent 30 year climatological record, which is a strictly defined 30 year period (1961-1990), updated once each decade. This 30 year period is assumed to accurately reflect the "climate" at the station. The next 30 year climate averages will be based on years 1971-2000.
