NORTHWEST WEATHER WATCH

Create a Line Graph Using Weather Data

Access the Live from Earth and Mars weather plot page and follow the instructions there to create a pair of line graphs of temperature for Seattle and Portland for the last 24 hours. Using the information shown on your graphs, answer the following questions:

What does your graph show?

Which city had the greatest change in temperature?

In terms of temperature, how similar was the weather in the two cities?

Make a prediction of the temperatures for both cities for the next five hours.

Go back and check the temperature data again after more than 5 hours has passed. How close were your predictions?

Notice that the time of the recorded data is recorded as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Why do you think the atmospheric scientists use GMT instead of the local time in the Pacific Timezone, in which both Seattle and Portland are located?

Create Another Type of Graph Comparing the sea level pressures in both cities.
