Julie Sutherland and Glenn Spinnie at
Silver Lake Elementary School in Federal Way, Washington,
have developed an excellent and extensive suite of Mars
based programs with colleagues in several other
departments.
Their"Mission to Mars"
program simulates a trip to Mars and runs for four days. The students
involved experience four elements of a Mars Mission: a Mars base, a
science laboratory, mission control, and a creative arts center. This
project engages students with a completely hands-on program, where
students develop and perform scientific experiments, sample and
collect data, create art, and learn to communicate what they have learned to other students.
